Diesel 10

Diesel 10, is a little used engine from the Land of Sodor. His chief features is that he is a diesel engine (who often doesn't get along with the "steamies") and he has a digger claw on top of him.

Well, he is Oliver's latest obsession. Oliver has been asking for him ever since he got his haircut before Christmas, and it came to a head on Sunday. We were at Toys 'R Us (TRU), and Oliver said he wanted Diesel 10. Well, they didn't have the wooden one. For some reason, Thomas toys are now both wooden and made of metal. But of course, the metal ones are slightly smaller (they are called "take along" but they are probably 98% of the size of the wooden ones) so they don't fit on the wood track. It is evil merchandising at its best. So then we went to the TRU at the Forum. But no luck. And no party supplies for Oliver's birthday either. Then we went to Better Toys, where Oliver on the drive kept saying in a pitiful voice "Diesel 10. Diesel 10. I want Diesel 10." But Better Toys didn't have it either.

So last night, Joe and I went to Vivo City to get the birthday party supplies, and yet again no Diesel 10. Now WE are starting to get obsessed about D10. We looked in the big sets to see if he was part of a set. We looked in the bookstore to see if there were any books with him in it. But no luck. This morning, Oliver woke up and came to our room. He stood at the door looking sad and said "Where is my Diesel 10?".

We started to understand where those parents who "over reacted" over Tickle Me Elmo, Cabbage Patch Dolls and other toys were coming from. But those parents didn't have the magic of the internet, so we will order it on the internet, have it sent to Grandma and Grandpa's and they can bring D10 to Oliver, and look like big heroes. Be warned though, Oliver might ask where D10 is before saying hi. Don't take offense.
