All about Mosquitos

Well, it's mosquito time in Winnipeg and Singapore. Singapore has a huge anti-mosquito campaign on right now, as the mosquitoes can carry dengue fever. There are ads on the subway saying not to allow standing water to be on your property, empty and turn over buckets, don't let water sit on planter plates (the little plate underneath a plotted plant), etc.

They must be doing a pretty good job as I yet to see a mosquito. However, dengue fever has reached epidemic levels here, and I believe there have been a couple of deaths.

They are pretty serious about mosquito prevention, as seen from this article:

"Government officials are conducting more regular spot checks of construction sites and homes, and contractors and residents can be fined between S$100 ($66) and up to S$20,000 ($13,170) if any mosquito larvae are found on the premises."

Now for Winnipeg, they are predicting up to 75 bites per minute. Yikes!!! Maybe they should take a page from Singapore.
